TEAR IT DOWN #1
TEAR IT DOWN - music zine

Starting as a uni project I created 'Tear It Down', a music zine that celebrates POC in rock and metal scenes. Working on my graphic design and Photoshop/InDesign skills I successfully designs the zine in homage to classic 70/80s punk zines.

Issue #1 focuses on the impact and influence of black people in the US and UK punk scenes. Featuring the story of X-Ray Spex' Polystyrene and a timeline highlighting the some of the iconic punk moments and bands involving black people, such as Bad Brains.

'Tear It Down' is a continuing project and I am currently working on #2, which will be bigger, bolder and involve more creatives of colour.

TURN IT UP LOUDER
Turn It Up Louder - online music blog

As a freelance writer at Turn It Up Louder, an online music blog that specialises in alternative music, I have had the opportunity to write reviews, recommendations, as well as work on group collaborations and even a piece about TikTok.

My personal stand out pieces include a review of Bury Tomorrow's album Cannibal which was read by the bands vocalist. Another stand out was a review of a Fever 333's Wrong Generation: Virtual Demonstration show. Finally, I also enjoyed being able to but the spotlight on BAME alternative artists.

WHAT'S ON GUIDE
What's On Guide GapTravel 2020 - feature article on BTS

Towards the end of my placement at What's On Guide I was given the privilege to write a feature article for their 2020 GapTravel issue. Due to their increase in popularity I chose to do my piece on KPOP group BTS. Click here for the full issue.

I was also able to write some online articles discussing a variety of topics surrounding politics and music, which you can see by clicking here.

BRATITUDE
Bratitude articles - 2020

Bratitude is a student magazine and blog, ran by women, that celebrate female creatives in music, film, and elsewhere.

I was given the opportunity to write a couple of pieces for the magazine regarding music. One discussed the influence of Billie Eilish and the other provided insight into how Brexit is affecting the music industry in the UK.

SAD BOIS
SAD BOIS - live gig at The Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham

In the summer of 2019 myself and a group of colleagues put on an a live event at The Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham. The gig showcased 3 small indie acts, including local band Sevey. My roles for this project included booking and keeping contact with the venue, ticketing, and online promotion. The turn out was great and we were able to give these small acts a platform at a well known Birmingham venue.

My final role was to put together a portfolio for the project, which showcases our research and final product, which you can view here.
